University Code of Ethical Conduct

President's Message

August 2011

Dear Colleagues:

Georgetown University’s Code of Ethical Conduct reflects the values and commitments we share as members of the University community. I urge you to read the Code, consider how it may apply to your work and interactions at Georgetown, and discuss it with your colleagues.

As we conduct our many University activities, we must always remember that we are responsible for maintaining the highest ethical standards and for complying with relevant laws, regulations and policies. To assist us in our ongoing efforts, the Georgetown University Institutional Compliance and Ethics Program encourages ethical behavior and coordinates the many offices that have compliance-related responsibilities and functions. The Program’s motto, “Excellence through Integrity,” emphasizes our shared belief that true excellence is achieved only through means that adhere to the highest standards of integrity.

The Code of Ethical Conduct articulates the basic standards and expectations that have long guided us in our work, interactions, and daily decision-making at Georgetown. The principles set forth in the Code are straightforward and should be familiar, but it is helpful to revisit them because they express our core values and help define our obligations.

I deeply appreciate the work that you do each day to advance Georgetown’s commitment to integrity. I am especially grateful for the leadership and dedication of those who participate in the important work of the Institutional Compliance and Ethics Program.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our efforts.

Sincerely,

John J. DeGioia, Ph.D., President
